How did Derek Jeter break the all time Yankees hit record…..?
A few months ago, the news kept talking about Derek Jeter and about him breaking the all time Yankee hit record. How can this be true?
Derek Jeter did NOT break any hit record or Yankee hit record!
Babe Ruth had 2873 hits.
Ricky Henderson had 3,055 hits
Paul Waner had 3,152 hits
Dave Winfield had 3,110 hits
Wade Boggs had 3,010 hits
ALL OF THEM WERE YANKEES!
Jeter only has 2747 hits!
He still doesn’t have anywhere near 3,000 hits! WTF Were they talking about?
you misunderstood what they were saying. he broke the all-time YANKEES hit record. as in the club’s record for a player’s career hits AS A YANKEE. other players are higher up the list in all-time hits, for the time being, but none of them played their entire career as a Yankee and their hits with other teams obviously don’t count toward the Yankee hit record. the former record was 2,721 held by Lou Gehrig, he played his entire career as a Yankee. Jeter did break that record with 2,722 hits, all for the Yankees as were Gehrig’s. plus Jeter will most likely be the first Yankee to reach 3,000 hits, but i don’t see him playing long enough to challenge Pete Rose’s all-time hits record. it’s really a meaningless record except for the Yankees organization, they made a big deal because: a) the Yankees will always be relevant, the Yankees ARE baseball, b) it was Lou Gehrig’s record, c) it’s Derek Jeter. he also holds the record for most hits in Yankee Stadium, another record that’s meaningless except to the Yankees.
now he does have some records that aren’t meaningless. such as the only player to win All-Star MVP and World Series MVP the same year. Jeter also holds the record for the most all-time career hits as a shortstop, that’s an MLB record not just Yankees record.
