Piano Hero in the Future?
Ever since the release of the first ever Guitar Hero game, the games have been a huge success and since that year, 2005, Activision have stormed the gaming market. Up until now Guitar Hero have released 10 different games, the first ones being based more on guitars. With the introduction of competition, Rock Band, Activision has been forced to introduce new instruments to their games.
However, with 3 new games in the pipeline, Guitar Hero are heading to get the edge over Rock Band with the introduction of a different game, without guitars.
The 3 new games that are due for release later this year are Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and DJ Hero. The first one is going to be Guitar Hero 5, this is a standard Guitar Hero game, it features an 85 song set list, as well as the full range of instruments. A new guitar controller is being released with this game, no doubt this controller will prove to be successful over the older model.
Band Hero is the second one, this is pretty much the same as Guitar Hero 5, except it’s more family based. Activision is using this game release as another way to try and get a larger cut of the market, this time, family gaming.
DJ Hero is the final game. Activision know it as much as we do, this is something brand new for the market, and Activision want as much from it as they can. The DJ Deck controller is being released with game, it features 3 buttons and 2 slider bars. Because the game is for an entirely new target market, it’s difficult to tell whether the game will be successful. However, if DJ Hero is successful, I wonder whether we will be seeing a new range of Guitar Hero games being released? Obviously Guitar Hero wouldn’t be the name. Plus, will Rock Band jump onto the band wagon if it does become popular and come out with their own range of games.
There are still a large number of target markets that haven’t been targeted by either Rock Band or Guitar Hero. One being piano fans. No doubt a Piano Hero game would be popular because you would get both modern piano players, as well as more classical players who prefer to play grand pianos.
A classical version of Guitar Hero is another angle they haven’t released yet. Classical guitars are hugely popular and by bringing out a video game like Classical Guitar Hero, you would almost be entering a new market because the age of the player would be different to the age of a standard Guitar Hero player.
They are just a couple of my ideas, but whether we will ever see these types of games is a different matter. It all relies on whether or not DJ Hero proves to be a big success for Activision. Another problem would be whether or not Activision think a game like Classical Guitar Hero would make any money at all.
These are all factors that would need to be considered before a new game would even go into production, but I would like to see some of these games in the near future.
