I want to create concert band music using a computer program, can someone get me a free downloadable one?
I just need a decent score creator that isn’t hard to use to create some music for a concert band. It needs to be free and downloadable. Can anyone get me a good program to use?
Not free anymore, but worth the ten bucks – Finale Notepad. www.finalemusic.com. However, I do not know if it will support as many staves as your concert band composition needs. You will have to move up to the BIG GUY – Finale ( or its competitor, Sibelius) for that. The competitors beyond THOSE two run a very distant third. I use these industry-standard programs almost every day in my work. So – see how far you get in Notepad, and remember that all your compositions can then be opened in FINALE, and expanded – and once done, can then be re-opened in Notepad

Since I earned a BM in Theory in 1971, and my MM in Theory in 1976 – and a BM in music education in between – I certainly HAVE done thousands of arrangements the *old-fashioned* way. There is NO COMPARISON that doing things digitally is better. Why do it TWICE??? Yes, there are people that use the facility of digital programs to churn out trash – and there are people who are *liberated* by the work-saving features. I remember in undergrad school, when people would start out to write a symphony – and the sheer drudgery of writing by hand, and then extracting PARTS, would have them make a change, and instead write a string quartet. Too bad.
There have been authors who wrote out everything on yellow legal pads – and then had a secretary type it!! We have come a long way – and if you are NOT on board with digital notation programs, then you are behind the curve, my friend. Yes, you need to spend a little time learning them. Advanced features, you can learn as you go. There are AMPLE places to get help. After writing THOUSANDS of educational and professional arrangement by hand – I have not touched a pen or pencil for MANY years – even the little, short, quiz excerpts are easier, digitally. I also almost NEVER write anything longhand – I make lovely cards on the computer. I still have a gorgeous *signature* – but that’s about it. Do not let anyone talk yo out of this – I *ENCOURAGE* you to pursue this.
