Bass Trombone
how does a bass trombone differ from a baritone horn?
I’m looking for a full, warm tone in an instrument and was initially planning on getting a baritone, but recently thought about the bass trombone (I have a tenor bone). I was wondering how the bass bone and baritone horn differ in sound- I know there are some differences, but i’m not sure. There were some good deals on ebay, and I ran across an E. F. Durand big bell bass trombone; it’s a straight bass trombone without any triggers. Do you have any thoughts on these things? I would really appreciate any input. Thanks
Well aside from the pitch of the instruments, the biggest difference is what you personally prefer. I’m a bone player, and I have played both baritones and euphoniums but I still prefer the sound of the trombone because you just can’t quite match it with the baritone and vice versa. I’m not familiar with a bass trombone with out triggers though, so I may have someone look at that just to be sure it’s a bass and not a big bored tenor. I have a Conn 88H trombone and I absolutely LOVE my horn. Conn is one of the best trombone makers out there, but again, this all comes down to your personal preference, but if you used to the bone, stick with the bone.
