Black Memorabilia
Need help creating a title for a Sports Memorabilia Piece.?
I work for a company that buys and sells Sports Memorabilia. Recently we got in a picture of Monte Irvin, Willie Mays, and Hank Thompson. These men in 1951 made up the first all black outfield. I suggested that be the title of the piece, with a placard saying the same. The argument that has arisen here in the office is whether or not that would be offensive. I said it would not be because it’s historically accurate and those complaining about it are doing so for the sake of complaining. Now that comes from some who sees the title “First All Black Outfield” as a badge of honor and really hates racists and their horrible views. So this is in no way meant to be hateful as it was meant to be done as a show of respect for what these men accomplished. So the question is: Is it offensive? Any and all views are appreciated.

Giants in the Outfield. It covers both meanings. Most people will only think of the overt one: three outfielders for the New York Giants. It will also subtly hint at the fact that they were the first all Black outfield in MLB history, something that true Giants fans specifically and baseball fans generally would know.
