Book Jazz
Can someone recommend a good fake book of jazz standards?

I don’t know much about fake books since I don’t play any instruments, but I’m part of a 16 person premier jazz choir at my school starting in August. Before school starts up, our conductor is holding a retreat for all members from August 11-13, and he wants all of us to have at least 3 solos of jazz standards ready to be presented during the retreat. He recommended buying a fake book of jazz standards the last time the whole group was together. Anyone have any good suggestions?

I’m a fan of the New Real Book series by Chuck Sher Publishing; since all the appropriate royalty arrangements have been made, according to the books’ appendices the source of many tunes is the composer’s lead sheet- to wit, straight from the horse’s mouth. In this series there are three New Real Book volumes, a Latin Real Book, a volume entitled “All-Jazz” which is heavy on tunes from bebop to the present day, and my favorite, the Standards Real Book, which is chock full of standards from classic writers like Cole Porter to newer tunes by artists such as the Doobie Brothers, Dionne Warwick, and Al Jarreau.
