What ranges should middle school brass players have?
By the end of their 6th grade year, by the end of their 7th grade year, and by the end of their 8th grade year. Include horn, trombone, and tuba. I already guesstimated that trumpet should have a range of about middle E (like the one above middle C… AKA the top of the first octave in the C scale) so basically the 3rd note in the second octave of the C scale… by the end of their 6th grade year.
Middle school players need to have at least a 2 octave range, whereas high school and college players should have a range of at least 3 octaves.
