Bring Him Home
How do you bring home the body of a WW2 vet?
My uncle was killed over Okinawa, Japan in WW2 and laid to rest there. It was my Grandfather (his brother’s) great wish to bring him home to the US (NY). I’d like to honor this, but have ZERO idea how to go about it. Since he was literally a war hero, I’d have to think the US Military (Air Force) could help. Any thoughts/advice/suggestions? Thanks much!
There are no military cemeteries in Okinawa Prefecture Japan. I lived there for five years. The source below may be of some help in determining the burial site for your late uncle. It has a searchable data base by war. The Decedent Affairs program of the military only covers the initial movement of those who died to the final resting place designated by the next of kin at the time of that death. Any exceptions to that have to be approved by the Secretary of the military branch.
