How To Sing High Notes: Taking An Unconventional Path Toward Success
Traditional voice lessons offer all sorts of techniques for learning how to sing high notes. Generally, these include things like repetitive vocal exercises to strengthen and flex the vocal chords. While these have their place, there are also unconventional methods that have proven to give singers success.
Though you might think this is old news, you should really consider how you stand. A simple posture change, such as standing straight and moving your shoulders back and down can make a huge difference. The reason is that this stance helps to open your torso in order to breath in more air. More air intake means better control of those high notes on the outflow.
Make this one crucial evaluation of your feet. Be certain that you are standing with your feet shoulder width apart. If you struggle with pitch in your upper range, be sure to turn your toes slightly inward. This will raise your pitch and tend to keep you singing in tune more easily. This little known tip works wonders.
When you are certain that your body is well placed over your feet, then try taking in more air when you breath. You should find it easier. You will probably also find that you are able to hold longer phrases much more easily in the higher tones.
When approaching a series of difficult sounds during practice, lift your arm over your head. Use your hand to make graceful floating and upward motions, with your wrist as the lever point. Doing this will take pressure away from the upper range. Invariably, the tones will float easily out of your throat as your hand floats above your head.
Another excellent technique is to bend your knees slightly when the vocal line goes up. Bending into the sound in this manner provides support for the torso and allows the sounds to simply fly out. Though it is a counter-intuitive motion, it works exceedingly well.
To produce warm, round tones, some voices will benefit from standing with arms rounded in front of the body. As the air comes in, prepare to expand the circumference of the arms. Once the higher pitches are sung, make the arms expand to warm up the tone. This is a great practice technique to develop supported breathing for warmer sounds.
Clench your buttock muscles as you move into those difficult tones. Though everyone who tries this in rehearsal usually ends up laughing uncontrollably the first time, it actually works right away. It is a simple way to learn how to sing high notes easily when you are just beginning. And of course, professionals use it all the time to support their torso when performing. The better you can support your entire body, the more your voice will benefit.
