Christmas Songs
What is the point of depressing Christmas songs other than to contribute to the holiday suicide rate?
Isn’t Christmas supposed to be a happy time? Then why are these particular songs so popular and why won’t the worst of them (Christmas Shoes for example) go away? Everyone talks about how the holidays are a prime time for people to commit suicide from depression and these songs that go out of their way to be depressing don’t help a damn thing.
Well, I make it a point not to listen to depressing songs. I think that those songs are actually the songwriters getting something off their chests. BTW, I think that “I’ll be home for Christmas” is kind of depressing bc at the end, you realize that being home is only in the person’s dreams and that he/she will not really be able to get home for Christmas. I understand that song was popular during ww2. Might have been therapeutic for servicemen stationed far from home.
