The famous British opera composers – Haendel and Purcell – did they meet? When? Where?
Henry Purcell (1659 – 1695)
Georg Friedrich Haendel (1685 – 1759)
I’ve never seen it spelled Haendel, always Handel.
Well, Handel/Haendel wasn’t British for one, although he did a lot of work for the British Monarchy and spent a lot of his life there. I shouldn’t think they’d ever met, seeing as Handel would have been 10 when Purcell died, but if they did it was probably for Purcell to give Handel some tutoring.
