Learning Electric Guitar – Using Your Resources

The guitar will seem an awkward instrument to the beginner. With a few basic exercises from an instructional DVD and lessons from learner’s book, the guitar will feel more comfortable to the new guitar player. Both hands are used to play the guitar, one to work the fret board, and one to strum or pick the strings. Do you want to learn how to play the guitar? Is it true that learning acoustic guitar lessons is the same as learning electric guitar lessons? Are the lessons you need to learn to play bass guitar the same as the lessons for the acoustic guitar? Then look no further than this article to get the answers you need.

Set up for success.

Before you begin, purchase the following items, a podium, a tuner, an instructional DVD, and a lesson book. Watching the instructions on the DVD, you can focus all of your attention on playing the guitar. Lesson books are used to teach the different scales and chords that you will have to learn. In order to have a hands off approach when reading sheet music, you can use a podium to keep the materials at eye level and tuners are used to keep the guitar tuned up. When the necessary equipment is gathered up, you can begin to take your first lessons.

Learn the basics.

You will learn the basics how to correctly hold the guitar and how your fingers are positioned on the fret board from your resources. The guitar will begin to feel more comfortable as the teaching tools guide you through rudimentary steps of strumming and picking the guitar. Until you can tune your guitar by ear, you can use the intuitional material, particularly the DVD to tune your guitar. They will further instruct you on how to read notes, that leads to learning the scales and chords that are necessary for seriously playing the guitar. Finally, a podium will help keep the sheet music at eye level so you focus on practicing your lessons.

Creating different notes.

You will be practicing the fret board with your left hand if you are normally right handed. This will result in the notes that are created. These exercises are the most difficult and you will need to practice playing notes on the fret board to build up strength in your fingers and hand. After you have had some practice with notes, the lessons will progress to scales and chords that will have to be memorized. Strumming and picking the guitar will be done with the right hand. While holding the pick between your thumb and index finger you will be instructed on how to strum the guitar. You will have to practice both techniques until you feel comfortable with doing it correctly with both hands.

Mastering the basic skills will enable you to begin playing some of your favorite songs from sheet music. After you are finished learning acoustic guitar, you can apply the knowledge you have gained to learning electric guitar. Although, the if you want to learn to play bass guitar, you’ll have to learn a different method and use different sets of instruction.
