Piano: what is the best way to improve your speed on runs/arpeggios/in general?

I’m currently without a teacher and I’m in grade 7 RCM, and I find it hard to play runs in pieces at speed without nearly losing control. Is the only way to improve this skill to practice scales or just repeat the section over and over during practice sessions? What are some good strengthening exercises aside from good old scales? or are there any

You can play the difficult runs staccato.

Play them with a dotted skipping rhythm.

Play them with metronome, very slow and deep style.

I usually keep difficult runs etc staccato as much as possible and find that my fingers run freely during the performance. Even if I have to perform the same piece later I still go back to staccato practice to keep the runs smooth.
