Lever Pedal Harp

should I chose lever or pedal harp?

I think im gonna play harp and I don’t know weather i should get a leaver or pedal harp because i have no idea the price and the size, can anyone help me with more information about both harps?

Pedal harps run $10,000 and up. Lever harps can run as low as about $500, depending on the number of levers, stings, maker, etc.

Pedal (concert) harps are harder to transport and more complex to play, but you can do more with them. You really need a teacher for them.

Lever (folk, celtic, lap) harps you can teach yourself to play. You can get them in small sizes where you can easily carry them. Some weigh just five pounds. You have a smaller range of things you can easily play because you have to move levers up and down for accidentals.

I recommend you start with a lever harp, probably a budget one. Then if you get into it and find you really like it, you can invest more in the pedal harp.

The links below are for harp stores that are really good, honest, and are willing to answer your questions. They sell lever harps in a range of size and prices.

By the way, in contrast to what someone else says, you are not limited in the kind of music you can play on either harp, just in how difficult it is. I’ve even heard metal music played on a harp. I play classical music on my lever harps all the time, along with folks songs, rock, Celtic (Irish), religious, etc. All kinds of stuff.
