Mitchell Lurie
Which clarinet reeds should I use?
I’m typically a fan of the Mitchell Lurie reeds (on strength 4.5). I’m currently using a Selmer student clarinet. However, I’m getting a new clarinet, a Buffet R-13, and I’m not sure whether the Mitchell Luries will get the same sound out of the Buffet. Should I switch to Vandoren reeds? What strength should I use? Should I try switching to Vandorens first on my student clarinet? Which brand of reeds is typically cheaper? Also, should I go for the Vandoren V-12 reeds? And I’m sorry that this is in the “Classical” subsection, but I wasn’t sure how to categorize this question.
The cost of the reeds doesn’t matter so much as the quality, but being a non-professional musician, I am on somewhat of a budget.
Since you are switching to a Buffet R-13, I recommend using Vandoren V-12 reeds.
They are slightly more expensive than regular Vandorens.
Vandoren- $3 per
Vandoren V-12- $5- 6 per
If you cannot afford the V-12′s, the regular ones still work greatly!
Also, Vandoren creates their reeds slightly harder, so since you are using Mitchell 4.5, I would switch to Vandoren 3.5.
