Never Mention Your

Can you mention anything copyrighted in your story without legal issues?
In my story I’m writing, I plan on getting it published- but I wanted to mention a few brand named products, like Coca-Cola and a hotel, the Marriott. But I’m scared to death that once it gets published, they’re all going to be all up in my face and say I never sought out their permission to use their products in my book, and I’ll have to face some stupid law suit. Is it possible to do this respectfully without asking to just use copyrighted things in your stories?
Brand-names are trade-marked, not copyrighted, but you can use them. If you get the story published, your agent and publisher will handle getting permission to use any of these names. I’ve read plenty of stories that have real brand-names in them.
