Playing the Guitar- 5 Top Tips for Beginners
Imagine playing the guitar in front of an audience and them cheering your name. Or just playing the guitar to family and friends and have them saying that they didn’t know “you could play so well!
Believe it or not, these are the possibilities that are out there if you want to learn to play the guitar!
So what are some key tips for learning to play the guitar?
1. Be careful about the amount of information on the Internet for learning to play the guitar. Be selective! You want to start off playing easy to play guitar songs. For example Mike Herbert has a great program that will get you started and learning up to 20 easy to play guitar songs quickly and easily.
2. Get to know your guitar well it’s important to know all the parts of the guitar such head, tuning peg, nut, fret board, position marker, body, sound hole, pick guard, pickups, pickup selector, tone/volume controls, and bridge as it will be easier to understand instructions for playing the guitar. A good workman knows his tools.
3. When starting to play chords make sure that you keep your fingernails clipped to a minimum this will help you hold down the strings so that when you pluck or strum you’ll get a nice clear sound. If the note sounds muffled keep practising it until it becomes clear.
4. Make sure you put time aside for practice the old adage goes “practice makes perfect” if you don’t practice you will never be successful. Have a clear goal in mind, think about what you want to accomplish and if you do that it will be a motivating factor to help you to practice even when it’s difficult.
5. If you are learning online make sure that you use all the resources available they will normally have music sheets, videos and play along tutorials. Make your practice as varied as possible and you will enjoy the results very quickly.
Anything worthwhile achieving is always going to seem difficult and it is no different with playing the guitar however if you continue to practice you will be successful and people will be applauding you and could be cheering your name.
