Piece Clarinet
What piece should I play on clarinet?
I’m picking a piece to audition for college, and the requirements for my top choice include “One movement of a standard sonata or concerto (Mozart, von Weber, Brahms).”
Any suggestions?
I like slower beautiful pieces, and I have a year to learn it, but I have to learn it mostly on my own, since I can’t afford private lessons.
From my experience, when colleges ask for a concerto, they usually call for either the first or final movement – so if you were to play the Mozart, I would go with the 1st (which is most common; 3rd is somewhat common, and 2nd is usually rare, because I remember that I had to play that in 8th grade). For the Von Weber (again from my experience), I would choose either the first or the last movement for the first concerto – I haven’t really gone in-depth with his other works. For Brahms, I would either choose his first or second sonata, first movement.
I would highly suggest getting a teacher – it’s rare for one to actually make it to a music program without prior private instruction.
