Plasticover Alto
what strength reed would i buy for hemke and plasticover alto reeds?
right now, im using a 3.5 traditional vandoren reed, but on the reed strength charts, the vandoren 3.5 isnt the same as the other two
Vandoren reeds do tend to run “harder” on the number rating system. In other words, a 3.5 in Vandoren tends to be harder than a 3.5 in another brand. I would suggest if you can you buy 1 strength 4 in hempke and one 3.5 and see which one feels right. Depending on how long you have played, you may be ready for a little bit harder reed anyways. Just try it out. When you figure out which size works best then you can get a box of them. I don’t recommend plasticover reeds, but if you’re going to use them I would probably go with the 3.5 (of course, again trying out different sizes would be best, but I know they cost more).
