How much would it cost to build and operate a recording studio?
How much would it cost to build both a low budget and decent budget recording studio?
This is an extremely variable equstion. A “low budget” studio could range from under $1000 to $10,000+ depending on what your budget is. FIrst of all consider what you need.
If you’re looking for a full studio space, that includes having a dedicated room with proper acoustic treatments, sound-proofing, etc. and also want to have a basic–but fully functional multi-track studio that is solely dedicated to music production expect to spend a fair bit of money and time.
If you’re looking for a place where you can simply record easily in a multi-function environment you can probably just start with basic acoustical treatments and worry more about your recording interface and mics.

That will give you more than enough in terms of what you need and what you should expect. If you’re looking to do something simpler I’d advise starting with figuring out your needs and desired interface (analog/digital) and then working up from there. Good mics and technique will always win over anything else so if you’re going to drop money put it in microphones and put your time into your technique.
