Reeds Medium
How do Oboe reeds work?
I know there are three levels of oboe reeds. Easy, medium and hard. But what is the point of the three levels? What does it do to the sound produced by the Oboe? Thanks for your help.
I’m an oboe major in college. Actually that’s not how the levels work. It goes……
soft, medium soft, medium, medium hard, and hard.
Each of these is how thick the reed is. You’re lungs need to work harder, the harder the reed is, because you need to make both sides of it vibrate.
I’m in music school and I have a very difficult time once reeds go above medium, but a lot of the men could play on a hard reed as they have stronger lungs than I do.
The little kids who just star off play on a soft. If you start them too hard, the 1. can’t get the sound out or 2. pass out
