Reeds Strength
Marching band saxophone reeds?

I’m doing marching band this year, after 4 years in band, and 1 year in jazz band.

I have been having a few problems recently with my reed drying out while i’m marching, so when i pick it up and try to play again it squeaks and won’t play.

I’m lead alto (and our show is jazz/bluesy music) so I need a reed that will allow me to play loud and still sound good. And also jazzy.

I was wondering about using plastic reeds. I’ve heard a lot about them, both good and bad, and I was looking for some opinions from people who have actually used them. Do they work? or are there better things to use? Such as Plasticovers.

and also, would i use the same strength reed i am now, on cane reeds? (I play with Vandoren Java Reds, 2 1/2, and Vandoren Jazz, 3)

Thanks for any help you give (: any answers are appreciated.

you’re probably not wetting your reed enough. i play clarinet and i never had that problem. i don’t know anything about plastic reeds sorry. maybe you need to go up a strength on reeds.
