Say Youre Mine

Does Learning To Detox Your Body Enhance Your Health
Ever since my teen years I’ve always been in pretty good health. I don’t get ill, and colds and viruses never seem to latch on to me – at least nothing that struck for longer than a few hours. So it was quite alarming when I realized I was becoming very lethargic and out of energy, and I was even finding it hard to get up in the morning. I’d seen doctors and consultants galore and had so many tests my arm was like a pin cushion, but every one showed nothing wrong.
Fortunately a friend of mine is a dietician and she advised me that I was in need of a natural detox, and take some time to learn how to detox the body and see how toxins accumulate in my body and impact my wellbeing and energy levels. It sounded like a good idea, so I decided to learn all about it, and get to grips with what is really involved and why the natural health industry advocate regular detox dieting and in particular the 7 day detox diet so strongly.
Another thing she suggested to me was to try a foot detox. I now treat myself to a foot massage at least once a week, but as a suitable alternative, the foot detox patches can do just as good a job – but with the patches you don’t get a relaxing foot massage at the same time
So here’s my top tips about how to detox your body.
Lots of water and herbal teas
One of the most important things you need to is drink lots of water while you are following a detox diet as it will help your body flush out all the toxins. It also helps to prevent constipation, helps your internal organs function more efficiently, and encourage clear skin. Your goal should be to drink about 8 glasses (or 2 liters) of water each day, although you will need more in hot weather or on days when you are exercising.
As a rule of thumb, increase your water intake by about half a liter for each hour of exercise. Filtered or bottled water is best as tap water contain chlorine and other toxins. Keep your water at room temperature as it’s more refreshing that way. Herbal teas are a great alternative in helping your reach your daily quote – preferably loose leaf rather than tea bags. Green tea, horsetail, camomile and roibosch (or redbush) are especially great in a detox as their essential oils help the detox process. Green tea and redbush has extra punch as it is a rich source of natural antioxidants.
Is Organic Better
When you’re following a detox diet you don’t need to buy everything organic, as organic produce is normally higher priced than non organic equivalents, but selecting just a few organic ingredients will be a step in the right direction.
If you can’t buy many organic foods, don’t worry. Just eating plenty of fresh fruits and veg is more important regardless of them being organic or not, than skimp on quantities. However, there are some good reasons for going organic on a healthy detox diet.
The use of artificial chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers are not allowed when growing organic foods, which means they are very low or even free from toxins like man made chemicals and toxins. The practice of organic farming is very contentious due to the fact that there is mounting evidence that the accumulation of pesticide residues overtime may cause health problems in the future.
Organic foods undergo minimal processing. That means they contain no hydrogenated fats, artificial additives, preservatives or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The taste and flavor of organic food is usually much better as well.
