Score Parts Jazz
Do I need to retake the SAT?

I have a 4.0 GPA, taken every AP and honors class offered plus zero hour, I play in band/jazz, I’ve lettered in community service, gotten scholarships etc.

But my SAT scores…aghhhh! I used to be part of John Hopkins Search for Talented Youth, aced the Washington Standardized tests for the first time in their existence…and this is just awful.

Critical Reading: 660 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Math: 740
Writing: 710

Be honest…how bad is this for someone who wants to double major in science/math?

Your scores are not that bad. As for how good they are, it depends on what schools you want to go to. You can look at www.collegeboard.com and search for various schools you are considering attending, and see how your scores compare with those of accepted students.
If you feel that your scores are lacking, it may be worthwhile to consider taking the test again. You can take it up to three times (technically you can take it more than three times, but I’ve heard that after that they start averaging your score). So, if you’re not satisfied with your performance this time, buy a test prep book and do some practice tests…or, get free practice tests at www.sparknotes.com/testprep
Practice makes perfect with the SAT; there are never any surprises on the tests. Once you’re comfortable with the format and how the tests are written, you’ll be set for success.
Also, consider taking the ACT if you consider yourself to be scientifically and mathematically inclined. If you are not aware, the ACT has a math and science section that, together, comprise 50% of the test (compared to the 33% that the math section comprises of the SAT score).
Finally, you may also consider taking some SAT Subject Tests to demonstrate your proficiency in the maths and sciences. Two math subject tests, and three science tests (biology, chemistry, physics) are offered. These Subject Tests are a great way to show your abilities in specific subjects that may not be explicitly tested on the SAT.
Good luck!
