Sheet Music Copyright
Does Sheet music copyrights expire 100 years after the composer’s death?
I’ve read so many copyright pages and articles. I want to write an instructional music book but I am having a hard time finding public domain music. If I find a book that was published 100 years ago or 100 years after the composer’s death can I use it however I wish even if it is to sell? If you can cite something specifically that will help me, please do so. I am tired of digging through sites and documents.
The most recent copyrights expire 70 years after the author’s death. However, regardless of which version of copyright law that was in place at the time of registration or publication, anything published prior to 1923 is now in the public domain.
