Silver Plated
Is my silverware silver plated or pure silver or not? and if silver plated where or how can i sell it?
I have silverware one set Branded with the words Holmes and Edwards with initials I S with a line between the I and S. and another set with the writings 1881 Rogers Oneida LTD. I want to figure out if they are silver plated, or pure silver, or not at all. and if they are silver plated, where would i sell them, or is it even worth selling. Need help big. If you know anything. Would really appreciate the help. Thanks.
Holmes & Edwards made both silver and silver plated silverware. Oneida made both silverplated and stainless steel silverware. You can look in silverware collection books to locate the pattern and determine if it was silver, silver plate or stainless. If the silverware tarnishes, then it should be at minimum silver plate. An antique appraiser should be able to appraise your silverware and give you a valuation for insurance purposes (which you should have anyway so that your homeowners will cover the sets). If you need to sell, you can put the sets onto consignment with an antique dealer, place the pieces into a specialist auction, list them on eBay or sell to a pawn shop.
