How can I convince my mom to let me switch from viola to violin?
I am a first-chair violist and I am pretty good at it (3rd Suzuki and 3rd Essential Elements book), and I am better than the first chair violin at my school. The problem is, everyone thinks that first chair violinist is ‘amazing and no one even comes close to her skill level’, but I overtake her skill level by a bit. And most people aren’t even aware of the fact that I am in orchestra…
Should I try to switch to violin?
Why does it bother you so much? If you’re as good as you say you are, be happy with what you have. The 1st chair violinist is a colleague, not an enemy. If you’re only in it for the glory, perhaps you don’t really belong in an orchestra.
