Tenor Sax
How different is the tenor sax from the flute?
I was wondering because I have played the flute for the last 6 years and i now want to play the tenor sax for jazz band. I was wondering if it would be helpful to have a private lesson instructor to help be in the beginning?
Well, the standard flute is in the key of C and the tenor is a B flat instrument. It will be confusing at first if you have to transpose, but if not than learning sax isn’t that hard. Obviously there are a few differences like your embrasure and the amount of air it takes. One thing that really helped me at tenor was that I played clarinet before switching, which is also a B flat instrument and has the same fingerings. As far as lessons go, they always help you improve, so I would recommend them.
