are there any sites to look up old black trade beads that are engraved?

I have recently bought a necklace with unusual sized beads which are black with different engraved horseshoe like signs on them. Between the beads are what I thought were beads, but they actually are a shell of some type (one was broken). Between them are gold tread type small beads. I’m just curios to where they originated at.
