Google Doodle gives a nod today to one of the best – Birks Gillespie – on what would have been the jazz trumpeter’s 93rd season within the sun. The final curtain fell on Gillespie in 1993 when he had been 75. Bebop music became popular with Dizzy Gillespie’s face
Dizzy Gillespie’s cheeks may be the first thing enthusiasts recall, but it had been his control of the trumpet at breakneck tempo that helped make bebop an electrifying new genre. In the 1940s, bebop became successful and popular due to pianist Thelonious Monk, saxophonist Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie.
