Voice Vocal Book

Should I get a new vocal teacher?
I wanted to take lessons bcause I want to sing for a career. I have been told I have the voice, but not all the skill. I have had this vocal teacher for a month now. I don’t feel I have improved. The usual lesson goes: She checks that I did my assignment in my theroy book. We do thirds for warm ups, but she never corrects my pitch. I am not sure if I was to high or low. Then we sing a song out of a book to a CD. When I sing is she supposed to correct me? She never does. That is how every lesson so far has gone. She tried to teacher me breathing on the first day, but I already knew it. What else should she be teaching me besides how to sing to a CD?
My lessons are once a week.
No, I’m a voice teacher, and I would suggest you look around for a new teacher. You can sing from a CD at home. If she’s not giving you real points to think about outside of your lesson, than all you’re doing is paying someone to practice with you.
What you want is definite things that you are doing poorly at, and a real set of ways to fix it.
Plus, your music theory should be just basic, and go quickly. I teach high school kids, and we’re always trying to slide some theory in there, but honestly, you’ll still have to take the theory class in college, and it will be 5 days a week and will cover all the theory you know now in the first week… do get too hung up on it now.
