Helping creating a jazz solo for saxophone?
Im in a band and we are already planning our Christmas album for 2011 and one of the songs we are putting in the album is ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’. I am experienced at playing the saxophone but havent the slightest idea where to begin when writing up a solo for half way through the piece.
Any ideas?

1. Use your ears (if it sounds good, play it. If not, don’t play it)
2. Use the harmonic minor scale (i.e. A,B,C,D,E,F,G#,A)
3. Use a pentatonic scale (i.e. C,D,E,G,A)
4. Use the blues scale (i.e. A,C,D,Eb,E,G,A)
What key are you playing in? What is the first and last chord?
